Reading can feel amazing. Sometimes a book makes us think differently, feel something new, or understand ourselves better. Books give us new perspectives and let us learn from other people’s experiences — things we may never see in our own lives.
But after we finish the last page, what happens next?
Many of us read books, feel inspired, and then move on — without changing anything. But what if we didn’t stop at reading? What if we took the ideas from books and used them in real life?
It’s easy to think that reading a book is enough,
and in some ways, it is. Reading opens our minds, teaches us new things, and gives us moments of peace. But real change doesn’t happen just by reading. It happens when we take what we read and try to use it in our everyday life.
That’s something I learned after finishing How to Win Friends and Influence People. The book is full of practical advice on how to connect with others — things like listening more, showing interest, and giving honest appreciation. I’ve never been someone who’s naturally good at socializing, so while reading, I found many of the ideas inspiring but also a bit challenging.
But instead of just closing the book and moving on, I decided to try. I started greeting people with a smile, asking more questions, and letting go of the pressure to impress. Slowly, I noticed that conversations felt easier, and I felt more confident. Reading gave me the knowledge — but trying those ideas gave me results.
Without action, knowledge fades. Books give us the tools, but it’s up to us to use them.
